Moroto JLOS house opened
The Justice, Law and Order Sector (JLOS) on Friday, February 14, 2014 offi cially opened the Moroto JLOS House – a multi-million building complex that is meant to provide shared offi ce space to a number of JLOS institutions. These include the Attorney General’s Chambers (Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs), Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Tax Appeals Tribunal (TAT), Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Offi ce of the Regional Prisons Commander (Uganda Prisons Services), facilities for the JLOS Secretariat, Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) and Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).
This regional justice hub is expected to improve access to Justice in Karamoja Region with a variety of JLOS services brought closer such as registration services (births and deaths), social and economic rights, immigration services, dispute resolution, civil litigation, National Identity card services, legal advisory services among others.The Moroto JLOS House was constructed with support from the Netherlands Government at a cost of UGX. 1.9 billion. During the same occasion, the Sector opened the Moroto JLOS Staff Quarters, funded by the Irish Government at a cost of UGX. 760m.The staff quarters will provide decent accommodation to offi cials deployed in Moroto from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (Resident State Attorney), Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Aff airs as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
